The Community Roundtable released their 2013 State of Community Management report today. The results are based on a relatively small sample set of 40 responses from mostly for-profit enterprises, but still provide some fantastic insights for associations. Definitely worth the read, but here are a few of the more interesting points:
- Average salary for a community manager: $65,778. Time for a raise?
- The 90-9-1 rule may no longer apply. The distribution of lurkers, contributors and creators was 55-30-15. How does your community compare?
- Organizations that can quantify the value of their communities tend to devote more staff resources, conduct more programs, and report on more metrics than those that can’t.
- 22% of organizations outsource at least some community management duties.
- When hiring a community manager, soft skills are valued over technical skills.
- Community managers had more than 8 years of work experience and more than 3 years of experience in community management.
- Organizations that can quantify the value of their community are more likely to track active and contributing members than those that can’t.
