Bryan Kelly of Aptify and I had a wide-ranging conversation about online communities in the May 5, 2014 episode of Association Mavens. We talked about several topics, including why so many organizations struggle with online communities and what to look for when selecting an online community platform, but one of the more interesting segments comes at the 18:41 mark when we discuss innovations in online communities.
In my work, I get to see the guts of a lot of online community platforms and even get sneak peeks into product roadmaps and features that are still in development. Although I’m prohibited from talking about many of them in detail due to non-disclosure agreements, in this segment I mention a few exciting things I’ve seen from clients and vendors that I work with. I give a couple of examples of some innovative new features that are happening at the fringes of the online community space, but which may ultimately come to market in the near future. The whole interview, lasting about 27 minutes, is worth a watch, but the discussion about innovation in online community platforms is a topic I haven’t talked about publicly.

Oh, and I’m wearing a necktie in the video, which almost never happens!
